On April 29, the Warwick Yard received final site approval from the Town of Warwick and are on target to have three full multi-sport fields complete by fall.
Surrounding the fields will be fitness trails, a full-service restaurant, fitness and recreation center and dorms to house summer campers and tournament teams.
“By this fall, teams, players and families will see a taste of what is to come at this sports village,” said Tony Abbatine, owner of The Rock Sports Park, Frozen Ropes and man behind The Yard Sports Village. “This venue will not only compliment what we offer at Frozen Ropes and The Rock, but will allow us to service the other sporting activities that children and adults want to play.
The Warwick Yard Sports Village opened its doors in January at the site of the former Mid-Orange Correctional Facility. Since then more than 100 soccer, lacrosse, football, baseball and softball teams have used the 35,000-square foot fieldhouse to play, train and compete.
Although the barb wire has been scaled back, it’s impossible to ignore the history of the unique facility, which is already home to two indoor turf fields and a catering hall called the Prism.
